ARTICLES - ORAL PRESENTATION 2

ORAL EXAM- PRESENTING AN ARTICLE

PART 1

Ø  Introducing the document

Ø  This document is taken from (source)

Ø  It was published in June 2017 ) or it was published on (June 15th 2017)

Ø  It was written by (author if mentioned)

Ø  It is called: (title)

Ø  It deals with – it is about – it focuses on

-          Working conditions

-          An environmental issue

-          A technological innovation

-          A new trend

-          A social issue

-          An economic issue

-          A recent phenomenon

-          An ongoing issue

Ø  The document is illustrated by a photo (at the top/ at the bottom) , by a cartoon, by an advert, a graph

Ø  So I think I’ll start by describing the photo, the cartoon… (on the left, on the right, in the middle, in the foreground, in the background we can see….

What is striking about the photo is…

Ø  Talking about the document:

a.      Who ,where, when

Ex: it focuses on women ( who)…employers (who), workers, young people, elderly people….

A firm/ a  company

This is happening in Europe, in the UK, in China…

This is happening nowadays  - it is something that will (could) happen in the future

b.      Present 2 our 3 ideas developed in the article, illustrated by example

Example: First  XXX has decided to … (has developed/ has invented…)

His/her/their goal is to … (improve, increase, boost, reduce, help, promote, encourage ,allow people to)

In addition, they offer/ they want to/ they say/ they argue that…

Finally, they want to / they hope to…

                In conclusion, I think (I don’t think) it’s a good idea – (effective – a positive step – a step in the right direction – interesting – it’s a good way to… - ) I don’t think I’s such a good idea – I don’t see how this will solve the pb. -

Personally I’m convinced that… it seems to me that …

PART 2: branching out

This document raises an interesting question: what can be done to (improve, change, boost, solve the problem of.)

To go further, I would like to examine the pros and cons / the advantages and drawbacks / the upsides and downsides of …/ on the one hand … on the other hand…

I would like to give a specific example…  I would like to make other suggestions…
